With the holiday season fast approaching, many of us will be taking a well-earned break. But if packing for your holiday, whether in this country or abroad, fills you with dread then don’t panic. Here at ImagebyTania we have the perfect go-to guide to savvy packing to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
When the time comes to pack our suitcases, many of us turn into self-confessed suitcase-zilla’s, aimlessly packing everything and anything that comes to mind. We’re afraid that when packing, you really must exercise some discipline. Before you pack any item, think wisely – are you going to actually wear this whilst you’re away? It’s likely that if you wouldn’t wear this item in this country then you’re unlikely to wear it in sunnier climates, so think carefully before you pack.
Always pack in outfits. Yes we know you may have a favourite top or that vibrant new necklace, but it’s absolutely vital that before you get packing you lay out potential outfits, ensuring that everything you pack matches to a couple of other items. Every top should match with at least two pairs of bottoms to ensure they have increased wearability for your trip. But this should be the case anyway in your everyday wardrobe if you possess a capsule wardrobe. If you bring clothes that don’t match it’s simply a waste of vital suitcase space for an item of clothing that won’t see the light of day.
Be space savvy
If you’re panicking about not having enough space in your suitcase (which you shouldn’t do if you’re outfit matching) then one of the best things to remove is a beach towel. They’re quite a heavy item and you certainly don’t want to have to pay for excess baggage at the airport! Also towels are so easy and cheap to pick up once you’re there, and not spending money on the excess baggage means you have plenty of spare funds for those poolside cocktails.
One of your key summer items should be your sunglasses, but remember to keep them in your hand luggage as it means that you can look effortlessly chic from the very moment you land. Also for those long haul or night flights they have the ability to hide a multitude of sins, especially if the plane journey has left you feeling a little jaded. If you’re looking for the most fashion-forward shades for this summer then the top picks are cat eyes frames or the tortoise shell styles, but remember, only buy glasses which suit your unique face-shape.
Fight the bugs in style
Something that is easy to forget when packing is the not-so attractive but ever so essential insect repellent. We must admit it’s not the most fun purchase to make in preparation for your travels but it’s a must. We also hate the overwhelmingly pungent smell which most of the repellents give out. That’s why we were thrilled to find Naturally Thinking’s Insect Repellent. With its refreshing scent and moisturising qualities it has become a firm favourite, and it’s only £4.50!
Let’s face it, great nails really do make a difference and adds a finishing touch to any outfit. This summer you should only be packing pastel varnishes, and we think that Nail Inc.’s Mini Gel Effect Collection is the perfect buy to suit everyone. With its six varying shades they can match to almost any outfit choice. Usually when buying a pack of nail varnishes there is always a questionable shade that gets binned, but here all are equally as brilliant and will highlight your beautifully bronzed skin.
Remember ladies, although packing can be considered one of the worst chores to complete before the fun begins, it really doesn’t have to be. The main things to remember are: Do not leave packing everything to the night before, don’t pack the entirety of your wardrobe, and have fun with it; play some music while you pack, have a glass of wine (but just the one – definitely don’t pack tipsy) and start your holiday off right!
